Workshops

Claudia Codega & Esteban Moreno

The two are currently based in Lyon, where they have been running their company, “Unión Tanguera,” for 25 years. Originally from Argentina, they met as choreographers, dancers, teachers, and producers in the early 1990s. Prior to that, they studied tango for 10 years with the masters of Buenos Aires and played a key role in the revival of Argentine tango. They contributed to its current popularity. Their dance combines the essence and heritage of traditional salon tango with the evolution and creativity of contemporary tango. They interpret styles in an interdisciplinary manner and explore the possibilities of movement and communication within the framework of improvised tango.

They had the opportunity to meet the last great living witnesses of the Golden Age of the 1940s and learned from them a deep love for traditional tango.

Building on these valuable experiences, they created a style inspired by their traditional tango heritage and the renewal of contemporary tango, which today serves as a benchmark for tango dancers of all skill levels. Dense, intense, and dynamic—their dance is a synthesis of reinterpreted styles, in which imagination and creativity shape the new contours of a social and improvisational tango. At the same time, they developed a more extravagant, distinctive, elegant, and expressive style that is ideally suited for stage performances and presentations.

Anton Volkov

Anton Volkov

For Anton Volkov, tango was love at first sight. Who would have thought that a professional athlete, upon discovering tango, would turn his entire life upside down from one day to the next? Not even Anton himself.

In his teaching, students benefit from Anton’s finely developed sensitivity to movement, body awareness, and openness. He is also a profound connoisseur of traditional tango music and a passionate guide to its richness. At the heart of his classes are the elegant expression of music through dance and the quality of connection between partners.

Today, Anton Volkov lives in Ljubljana, Slovenia. As a tango teacher and DJ, he travels throughout Europe. His book Touched by Tango traces his personal journey into tango and shares insights that may also be valuable for other tanguer@s.

In Salzburg, he regularly offers private lessons and workshops, including work with a group of role-switching dancers.

Angelika Thiele (D) & Giorgos Protopappas (GR)

Angelika and Giorgos teach a contemporary approach to Argentine tango.

Their work is rooted in essential ideas of partner dancing as a non-verbal dialogue: connection with one another, alignment, embrace, intention, polarity, tenderness and powerful dynamics, linear and circular elements, leading and following, and improvisation within a system of different movement principles and qualities.

Angelika is a contemporary dancer, performer, certified Shiatsu practitioner, and yoga teacher. She has worked internationally, both as a company member and as a freelance artist, and discovered tango through her collaboration with choreographer Ana Mondini at the Staatstheater Kassel. After numerous seminars in Argentina and across Europe, she began dancing and teaching together with Giorgos in 2014. Angelika holds an MFA in Performing Arts from the University of Gothenburg.

Giorgos studied law and social sciences and holds a Master’s degree in Dance from Duth University in northern Greece. His love of dance, and especially of tango, which he has explored, studied, and taught in all its forms for more than twenty years, continues to shape his artistic development.

Angelika & Giorgos’s classes emphasize the intensity of connection, an organic and relaxed quality of movement, humor, and the joy of discovering new possibilities together through improvisation. Their focus is on the “how” and “why” of moving together and the connecting, non-verbal communication from which form can emerge. In addition to their own seminars and workshops, they have collaborated on projects for the Tanztage Potsdam and at SEAD Salzburg. Angelika and Giorgos live in both Athens and the Salzburg region and teach throughout Europe.

At the Festivalito, Eloy will teach one workshop and offer private lessons.

Milongas Bands & DJs

Friday, October 9

Welcome Milonga | 7:30 pm–0:30 am
with DJ Alenka Dermol (SI)

For more than two decades, she has devoted herself to tango with great passion – as both a dancer and a DJ. It all began in 2005, and in 2006 she made her first trip to Buenos Aires. There, she was deeply moved and lastingly enchanted by tango and by the atmosphere of the city. Since then, tango has been at the center of her life, and Buenos Aires has remained a place to which she returns again and again. Her work as a DJ grew out of countless nights in milongas around the world, where she immersed herself intensely in tango music. Once she had entered that musical world so deeply, tango never let her go again.

Saturday, October 10

Afternoon Milonga | 2:30–6:00 pm
with DJ Lenz Angermann

His love of tango music grew over the years through dancing tango. He selects the music with the dancers in mind, focusing mainly on pieces from the Golden Age of Tango, arranged in the classic TT–V–TT–M structure with cortinas.

With each tanda, he invites us to be carried away by one of the orchestras through a danceable blend of musical variety, energy, and dynamics. And then the music should take hold of us completely and touch our hearts.

Gala Milonga | 7:30 pm–0:30 am
with live music by the Hamburg Tango Trio
Show by Claudia & Esteban

Perfume de Mujer – Tango Argentino Hamburg

The trio is made up of Aneta Pajek (bandoneon), Hans Christian Jaenicke (violin), and Caio Rodriguez (guitar and vocals).

Tango is all about powerful emotions, great passion, and deep melancholy. For many years, the Argentine singer Caio Rodriguez has carried the rhythms of his homeland out into the world — from Brazil to Poland, from Italy to Paraguay. And of course, no tango ensemble would be complete without the bandoneon, often described as the soul of tango, here played by Aneta Pajek.
Together, they create a combination that brings together everything that makes tango so passionate: fire, longing, rhythm, and melodies that tell stories of gauchos and smoky bars.

DJ Leo Strobl

Leo’s fascination with tango began 18 years ago, and since then dancing tango has been his passion. Since 2015, he has been DJing regularly at milongas in Salzburg and in the Bavarian region. His sets draw on the great richness of traditional tango music, with carefully selected pieces from the Golden Age — from the late 1920s to the 1950s. Music that invites people to dance and brings a good atmosphere to the dance floor is what motivates him. At the same time, Leo also includes more recent tango music in his playlists.

Farewell-Milonga with Live Music from Quinteto Garufa (D), Showtanz Angelika & Giorgos

Quinteto Garufa

Rooted in both Latin America and Europe, the musicians of Quinteto GARUFA are a melting pot much like tango itself. With irrepressible vitality, melancholy, precision, and dedication, the ensemble brings Argentine tango to life in all its rich and multifaceted expression.

Juan José Chuquisengo (piano), James Ogle and Beate Fischer (violin), Teresa Brunnmüller (bandoneon), and Horst Dehnicke (double bass) had already devoted themselves to tango in previous ensembles. Now united as Quinteto GARUFA, the five musicians bring the entire world of Argentine tango to just a few square metres of stage.

Their repertoire ranges from the tangos of the Guardia Vieja at the end of the 19th century to the Tango Nuevo that brought the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla worldwide acclaim. A special highlight of their programme is the original music of J. J. Chuquisengo.

Based in Munich, Germany’s southernmost major city, every performance by Quinteto GARUFA is a homage to longing in all its beauty.

DJ Niki

Niki began putting together music for milongas in 2019. She is part of the organising team of the Alma y Corazón Milonga in Salzburg. Her music is predominantly traditional, with a clear focus on a balanced interplay between milonguero and salon styles.
With Niki, an atmosphere emerges that invites people to dance — open, inspiring, and accessible to everyone, whether experienced dancers or newcomers to the floor. As a DJ, she has a sensitive feel for the mood of the audience and knows exactly how to respond to the energy of the dance floor.
